The Director of Research and Strategy for the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has made a startling revelation, asserting that Nobel Prize laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka attended the University of Ibadan (UI) but was rusticated from the institution.
This revelation was made by Obaseki on a Sunday, following reports that a classmate of Bola Tinubu had appeared in court to confirm the president as their fellow classmate.
The statement comes amidst a controversy surrounding President Tinubu’s academic credentials, which has led to an appeal being presented to the Supreme Court.
Obaseki emphasized that the main concern, as raised during an interview with AIT, is not whether Tinubu attended Chicago State University but rather whether he graduated or falsified his diploma. He claimed that the school denied the authenticity of the certificate, going as far as stating they had never seen one like it.
In his interview, Obaseki stated, “Look, you said he brought somebody that he attended school together; let me just use a very simple example: in the 50s, Prof. Wole Soyinka went to the University of Ibadan, but he cannot tender the University of Ibadan certificate because he was rusticated; he didn’t finish.
So as a result of that, it is common public knowledge that he attended. It is not whether he attended or whether the person is a female or a male that attended; the issue is the certificate.”
He further pointed to the certificate in question, highlighting that the institution, as indicated in file 26, file 7 of the same deposition, clearly stated that they did not recognize it, and it was the first time they had seen such a certificate during the proceedings.
