There has been speculations from Critics and Opposition parties that President Muhammadu Buhari is working on a grand plan to contest for a third term.
Human Rights Lawyer, Femi Falana, the People’s Democratic Party amongst others have openly accused the Buhari-led government of working towards Buhari’s third term by trying to silence Nigerians through the ‘Hate Speech Bill’, using government agencies like the EFCC and DSS to harass opposition and ridiculing the judiciary by disobeying court orders.
Even though the president, during the recent APC NEC meeting days ago said that he will be following the constitution and won’t run for a third term, many Nigerians, including Aisha Yesufu do not believe that he has the integrity to keep his word because there are newspaper publications which show that in 2011, he promised to run for one tenure.
Yesufu who is a co-converner of the Bring Back Our Girls Campaign and a prominent critic of Buhari has expressed anger that while Nigerians are still very dissatisfied with this government, it is conceiving the idea of elongating it beyond the constitutionally prescribed tenure.
