A certain family in Gbako L.G.A., Niger State has refused the dowry of N1,000 and N500 notes from a suitor.
It was reported that the suitor’s family took a certain amount to the woman’s family as bride price and funds for the wedding.
The family of the lady, however, refused the money which comprised old N1,000 and N500 notes. This was basically because of the deadline placed by CBN for use of the old Naira notes being January 31st.
The lady’s guardians said that they are neither ready to start buying wedding items nor do they have a bank account to keep the money.
A family member of the suitor said:
“We took money to the family of the girl we want to marry. They called me on Sunday to come and take the old currency notes back pending when we have the new naira notes. They said they don’t have anywhere to change the old notes. So, I want to take it to the bank pending when we get the new notes.”
