Police begins room trial of officer who “accidentally” killed two youths in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has started the orderly room trial of a police officer who killed two youths in the state.

LIB reported that the incident happened on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, when men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) wanted to arrest some youths suspected to be internet fraudsters.

Sunday Abutu, spokesperson of the command, confirmed the development in a brief statement made on Thursday, June 6.

“After investigation, the Command has commenced the orderly room trial of the Officer who was responsible for the fatal shooting of two persons around Omisanjana area of Ado-Ekiti, on 28/05/2024,” the statement read.

“The CP assures the family members of the deceased and the general public that justice will prevail at the end of the day.”

The young men who were driving a Lexus RX car got involved in an accident with two motorcycle riders while attempting to escape arrest.

Some irate youths attempted to help the fleeing men resist arrest by mobbing the police, one of them fired bullets that fatally injured two boys.

The victims were rushed to the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital where they passed away.
