Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers is currently in Aba with his Abia state counterpart, Okezie Ikpeazu.
Also present in the state are Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, Samuel Ortom of Benue, and Seyi Makinde of Oyo. According to the Rivers governor, they are in the state “for the PDP campaign today”.
The governors, known as G5, have been clamouring for the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The governors are also part of a larger aggrieved collective known as the Integrity Group. They have so far failed to participate in the presidential rallies of the party for the 2023 elections.
They have however expressed a readiness to reconcile with the party’s leadership, provided their demands are met.
