The removal of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) may be happening soon than expected.
According to a report from the Nigerian Tribune, 13 out of 20 APC governors have now officially endorsed the removal of Oshiomhole as the party’s leader.
An FCT High Court had recently told Oshiomhole to step aside temporarily pending the determination of the suit asking for his permanent removal. This comes after he was recently suspended by his party at his ward, local government and state levels.
However, he was able to get a stay on execution order from a Federal high court in Kano.
Allegations that triggered his suspension include; alleged highhandedness, misappropriation of funds and disregard for the rule of law.
Governors of the party are of the opinion that the ruling APC, has in recent days been going through a lot of turmoil due to Oshiomhole’s high-handedness.
The APC has also been battling with internal unity, especially in its National Working Committee (NWC), and many see Oshiomhole as the cause of the crisis.
It was alleged that Comrade Adams, single-handedly appointed a national secretary for the party without any constitutional backing.
Also, he was accused of unconstitutionally inputting Lanre Issa-Onilu and Waziri Bulama into the NWC of the APC single-handedly.
Oshiomhole was also accused of constantly disobeying court orders and going against the provisions of the party’s constitution.
The APC governors had earlier asked the National Executive Council (NEC) of the party to immediately replace Oshiomhole.
The governors through the director-general of the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), Salihu Lukman, on Friday, March 6 also asked Oshiomhole to quit.
At the moment the APC at the national level has been factionalised and the situation is said to have made the governors apprehensive that the party may be destabilised.
While a group in the party’s NWC called for an emergency NEC meeting, another group declared the meeting illegal.
In a related development, a recent media report indicates that the recent crisis in the ruling APC is a power-play between the party’s governors and their national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Those in the know say the latest crisis is part of the bid to grab the soul of the APC for the 2023 presidential fight.
Whatever the case, expect more political drama from the ruling party. And expect us to bring the updates to you.
