The Volta Region of Ghana has witnessed a tragedy after a man who won a lottery celebrated too wildly, leading to unfortunate death five people in a freak accident recorded at Tegbi Vakpomda in the Anlo District.
The 30-year old man identified simply as Wisdom Kpodo reportedly won a cool ¢1,200 (about 80,000 naira) in a lottery after he had been on the losing end for a number of times. For this reason when luck finally smiled on him, he couldn’t restrain himself as he hopped into a taxi with his friends and started driving around town recklessly.
In the process, he knocked five people with the taxi which killed all of them. The Assembly Member for Tegbi Afedome Electoral Area, Mr Noel Kokoroko, who narrated the distubing news to the media, said Wisdom moved the taxi from Woe near Tegbi, to Keta at top speed with others shouting ‘no size, no size.’
On his return to Woe, and on reaching Vakpomda, the eyewitness narrated, Wisdom tried to overtake three vehicles in a row, and in the process lost control of the steering and veered into a house, which was 40 metres away from the road, ending the lives of the five persons.
The unfortunate victims of Wisdom’s carelessness have been identified as Faustina Afi Amegashie, 70; Regina Edzia, 41; Rebecca Agbanavor, 17; Etornam Agbanavor, nine, and Charity Agbanavor Exornam, two years.
Three of the persons, Madam Regina Edzia and her three children died instantly, while the remaining two were pronounced dead on arrival at the Keta Government Hospital.
