The Chairman of All Progressive Congress, (APC), Imo State chapter, Daniel M Nwafor has thrown his weight behind the suspended chairmen and councillors and accused the factional caretaker chairman of the party in the state, Marcellinus Nlemigbo of being bought over by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Nlemigbo had in a press conference yesterday, disassociated APC from the move by the elected local government executives to take back their positions across the 27 council areas in the state.
The council executives who were unlawfully suspended by the state governor, Emeka Ihedioha on 18th June, 2019, acted on the judgment of the Supreme Court which had ordered and served the all the governors in the country to allow them return to their offices.
The apex Court also ruled that both the state governors and the state house of assembly had no power henceforth to tamper with the office of the elected council executives, describing it as unconstitutional, illegal and abuse of power.
Speaking to Newsmen in Owerri, Nwafor said that Nlemigbo has no power to speak for Imo APC on any issue concerning the party, and advised the public to disregard him and his cohorts.
He said, “Nlemigbo and his cohorts still constitute illegality and their continued effort to destabilize our party in the state is obvious.
“I can tell you for sure that he is now working for PDP and they have paid him to cause more troubles for our party and we will continue to resist them.”
On the incident of the invasion of the council headquarters, the Imo APC boss said the party is still studying the outcome to know the next move.
He also advised the entire party members in the state to remain calm and law abiding, stressing that the party members are most peaceful party faithfuls in the state.
