Lagos Govt intercepts truck loaded with 123 persons, 48 motorcycles from Jigawa

A truck fully loaded with 123 persons and 48 motorcycles was intercepted by the Lagos state government on Friday August 30 in Agege area of the state.

The truck which was from Jigawa state was impounded by operatives of the Special Taskforce on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offenses, after residents of the Lagos community raised an alarm over the manner occupants of the truck conducted themselves.

Yinka Egbeyemi, the Chairman of the Taskforce told newsmen that occupants of the truck were moved to Oshodi for interrogation. According to him, nothing incriminating was found on them apart from their motorcycles.

He said: “While my team was on operation, we got information from the public that some people had entered into Lagos in trailer loaded with over 300 people. We swiftly responded to the alert and trailed the truck from Berger area to Agege. We eventually intercepted the truck which carried no few than 123 men and 48 motorcycles.

“We have interrogated most of the truck’s occupants; from the information we gathered, some of them said they were coming from Jigawa State, with 48 of them claiming to own seized motorcycles. The rest of them said they came to Lagos in search of greener pasture.”

One of the “arrested” men, Shuaibu Haruna said he travelled down from Jigawa to Lagos state to work as a commercial motorcyclist to take care of his family. The married man and father of one also revealed that he has already paid N7,000 as accommodation fee in Isolo.
