The Nigerian Police in Oyo state command has given details on how a leader of All Progressive Congress (APC), in Ona Ara Local Government of the state, Alhaji Babatunde Oreitan was killed in his house on Wednesday afternoon.
According to a statement from Gbenga Fadeyi, the spokesman of Oyo police command, the late politician was killed with sharp objects in his house and was left to bleed to death.
Fadeyi said, “Alhaji Babatunde Oreitan of Ona Ara constituency was attacked by unknown assailants in his house at Oremeji, Olorunsogo area of Ibadan. His right hand and right leg veins were slit opened with sharp objects and left to bleed to death.
“The Commissioner of Police visited the scene for on the spot assessment and had directed immediate Investigation into the dastardly killing.”
Fadeyi added that the “Police operatives are on the trail of the assailants for arrest and prosecution.”
Meanwhile, the APC in the State has pointed accusing finger at the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the killing of the 77-year-old Alhaji Oreitan Babatunde.
In a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Dr Abdul-Azeez Olatunde, the APC described the killing as “wicked and heartless”.
The party urged the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Shina Olukolu, to fish out Babatunde’s killers and prosecute them.
The statement read, “What the public will perceive as trivial was the achievement of eight years in the provision of safety of life and property which was the number one achievement of the Abiola Ajimobi government between 2011 and 2019.
“The Seyi Makinde government and his party have been targeting leaders of the leading opposition party within some months of coming to power. The act was carried out today (Wednesday) by 3pm.”
Olatunde added, “What could be the offence of a 77-year-old politician?
“We are urging the security outfit in Oyo State to kindly unravel the identity of the heartless killer gang hell-bent on silencing the opposition in Oyo State.
“It is on record that Nigeria is running three tiers of government. We are dismayed that the state government is desperately determined to refuse the elected local government chairmen from serving the people.”
