No fewer than 50 people have been reportedly kidnapped by bandits in an early morning attack on Bassa community in Shiroro local government area of Niger state.
According to The Nation, the bandits stormed the community in large numbers in motorcycles in the early hours of Thursday.
The people were getting set for the day’s activities, which were disrupted by the bandits, causing them to run into the bush for safety.
The co-convener Concerned Shiroro Youths, Sani Abubakar Kokki confirmed the attack, describing the bandits as terrorists.
He lamented the bandits attacked the town, causing mayhem on unsuspecting peaceful, unarmed and defenceless locals.
He, however, stated that the number of people kidnapped is not yet certain but said that they were very many.
Kokki also disclosed that on Tuesday, some other communities in Bassa/Kokki were attacked with many losses recorded.
He said that Shiroro local government area is in dire need of help, as people continue to live at the mercy of the bandits.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abiodun Wasiu, said he is yet to get details about the incident.
