Cross River-based Journalist, Agba Jalingo has been granted bail by the Federal High Court sitting in Calabar, after spending over five months in detention..
Justice Sule Shuaibu of the Federal High Court on Thursday granted the journalist N10 million bail, following an application from his lawyer, Attah Ochinke.
The court asked that those standing as surety for the journalist must make a refundable deposit of N700,000 to court registry to perfect the bail.
The journalist had filed a fresh application for bail at the Federal High Court, Calabar on February 13, 2019, after his case was transferred to a new judge, Sule Shuaibu.
Shuaibu had taken over the case after Simon Amobeda stepped down due to a secret recording where Amobeda allegedly made some “biased” remarks against Mr Jalingo.
Recall that the publisher of CrossRiverWatch was arrested on August 22, over a report alleging that the Governor of Cross River, Ben Ayade, diverted N500 million belonging to the state.
The journalist who was detained in Calabar prison has been refused bail, twice by Shuaibu.
Meanwhile, the Cross River state governor had earlier denied knowing anything about the ordeal faced by Agba Jalingo.
