The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has reported controversial investigative journalist, Kemi Olunloyo, to Twitter for tweeting about the alleged death of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Ms Olunloyo had caused panic among IPOB members and Nigerians when she tweeted on Tuesday night unconfirmed reports that Mr Kanu had died of Coronavirus.
“#BREAKING Reports that Nnamdi Kanu has died. This is one strong news I cannot authenticate. Kanu or IPOB will have to debunk this. I hope he’s fine. Good luck to everyone,” Kemi Olunloyo wrote.
She then tweeted on Wednesday, saying she had spoken with close friends of Kanu, including former aviation minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, who confirmed that he spoke with the IPOB leader.
However, Twitter management, in its message to Olunloyo, said the 55-year-old did not violate its rules in her tweet.
“After reporting Kemi to Twitter for tweeting that she can’t verify Kanu’s death Twitter ignored IPOB,” she tweeted on Saturday.
Kanu’s lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, tweeted on Friday saying that Kemi Olunloyo lost her Twitter verification badge after the controversial tweet.
