The lawyer appeared on the Friday edition of Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily and argued that the APC cannot support PDP members under Section 177 of the Constitution.
“What we are saying is that the APC will not support any member of the PDP as clearly stated in Article 177(c),” he said.
Mr Onu said Mr Nwihuru’s claim of status as a PDP member was supported by the membership register of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He explained that the list “clearly” shows the names of candidates based on the PDP and not the APC.
When asked to comment on whether the case could be said to be about Mr. Nwiful’s suitability, as the court said in its judgment, he replied: “It’s about suitability.”
According to him, “This man we are talking about (Nwifuru) has been paying PDP dues since March when the elections were held.” The party membership list obtained from INEC shows that this name belongs to APC Not listed below. The name is under PDP. ”
Onu expressed his dissatisfaction with the legal system, saying that the intended effect of the law and the limitations set out in Article 177(c) of the Constitution appear to have been defeated.
“This law has no effect and limiting section 177(c) is of no use. Therefore, this section should be deleted,” he said.
