Francis Van-Lare, a controversial businessman has publicly criticised his ‘’late son-in-law,” Dr. Ikenna Erinne, who committed su!cide following a series of troubling events involving his estranged wife, Suzzette Chibuogu Van-Lare.
In a post shared on his social media account, he dismissed claims of Dr. Erinne being his son-in-law, stating the fact that Erinne never paid a bride price for his daughter.
He questioned how anyone could consider Erinne a son-in-law and criticized his refusal to provide financial support of $1,900 monthly for his children.
Van-Lare stated, “Most Nigerians think with emotions, not with reality and facts. How is someone who never paid bride price for my daughter a son-in-law?”
The business man went on to highlight the cultural pride of Anambra men, emphasizing their reputation for supporting their families financially, even resorting to questionable means if necessary.
He contrasted this with Erinne’s alleged lack of responsibility, claiming, “Anambra men do not kpai themselves over family matter. They man up and pay, even if they have to do yahoo yahoo to support their family.”
The comments sparked controversy online, with many criticizing Van-Lare for his remarks, given the tragic nature of the incident. Others debated the cultural and moral implications of his statements.
Van-Lare had earlier refuted claims that the late doctor took his own life due to financial strain from a $15,000 monthly child support ruling. According to him, it was just $1,900 which the late doctor paid partially sometimes.
