Fatima Binta-Bello, a former Deputy Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, has resigned her membership in the Peoples Democratic Party.
Binta-Bello communicated her decision to resign from the PDP in a letter on October 5, 2023, and addressed it to the PDP Chairman in Shongom Ward, Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe State. The letter was silent on her reason for leaving the PDP, in which she had spent over 20 years as a member.
Binta-Bello was a former Deputy Chairman of Shongom Local Government Area and also a commissioner during former governor, Muhammad Goje’s administration.
She lost her bid to go to the Senate to represent Gombe South in 2019 after losing to the candidate of the APC, Bulus Amos.
However, she thanked the entire leadership of the party, saying that her decision to resign from the party was a difficult one, but taken after a wide consultation with her associates.
“I am writing to tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect. Attached herewith, I am also sending in my PDP membership card.
“This decision was not an easy one and I have consulted with people before taking such a step due to certain factors. I want to use this opportunity to thank the party for all the support given to me for over two decades. I wish you nothing but success in the future,” she said.
