Nigeria’s Former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has disclosed that GAVI has reallocated $200 million to assist partner countries in the fight against coronavirus.
The renowned economist who is the Board Chair of GAVI made the disclosure via her official Twitter account.
“Covid-19! Gavi reallocates $200 mil plus in grants immediately available to partner developing countries to purchase test kits, face masks, and other equipment and strengthen health systems @Gavi” Okonjo-Iweala tweeted.
Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation (GAVI) is a public–private global health partnership committed to increasing access to immunisation in poor countries. Since its creation in 2000, Gavi has immunised 580 million children globally and saved 8 million lives.
In the face of the coronavirus pandemic, aside reallocating $200 million, Gavi will be providing test kits, face masks and some other hospital equipment.
