Dr. Osagie Ehanire, the Nigerian Minister for Health, has revealed that the 15 Chinese medical doctors in Nigeria will be tested today to ascertain their COVID-19 status.
The doctors had flown in with medical equipment worth about $1.5million, through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on April 8, 2020.
Nigerians, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) had criticized the move by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19.
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, were forced to debunk reports that one of the Chinese doctors had tested positive for the COVID-19.
However, the Health Minister Dr. Osagie Ehanire, who dropped the hint yesterday, Wednesday, during the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 in Abuja, said: “I was reminded that the people who came from China had spent 14 days in quarantine and I ordered that the test be done. The COVID-19 test swabs are to be taken tomorrow and the test will be done to finalise if any of them has any infection.”
