Renowned US-based Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has taken to Instagram to criticize President Donald Trump of the United States and his counterpart from Brazil, President Jair Bolsonaro, for the way they’ve handled the COVID-19 pandemic in their countries.
Chimamanda shared a video of her listening to music from Brazilian singer Xenia Franca as she disclosed that she’s thinking of Brazil, “a country close to my heart.”
She then pointed out that Brazil and United states now have high numbers of Covid-19 cases because of the ‘brittle egos’ of the their leaders.
She wrote:
“Brazil now has the second highest number of Covid-19 cases, behind the United States.
Both countries have populist ‘leaders’ full of a vacuous braggadocio that would be funny if it didn’t have life and death consequences for so many.
“Their irresponsibility costs lives.
Their fragile, brittle egos cost lives.
leadership matters.
Love to the people of Brazil.”
