The Catholic Church in Nigeria through the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has offered its 425 hospitals and clinics nationwide for the treatment of coronavirus (COVID-19) patients.
This was disclosed by Boss Mustapha, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, during the daily Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19 media briefing on Monday.
He advised governors in various states where these hospitals and clinics are located to approach these facilities and utilise them.
The offer becomes necessary in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases, and the need to increase isolation capacity.
Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) during the briefing noted that community transmission was ongoing in cities like Lagos and Kano, therefore the response to these cases must be improved.
The PTF on COVID-19 was established by President Buhari on March 9, 2020, to coordinate and oversee Nigeria’s multi-sectoral inter-governmental efforts to contain the spread.
