Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is the worst in Nigeria’s history.
He said that Nigerians are suffering because of the president’s failures, and that the country has been plunged into poverty and insecurity. This comes as preparations for Buhari handing over to Bola Tinubu in few days time continues to build moment.
Ortom, who spoke at the commissioning of the headquarters of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, said that Buhari has taken Nigeria from the top to the bottom. He said that the country was far better under Jonathan, but that Buhari has taken it several years backwards.
Ortom said that Nigerians can compare the prices of goods and services under Jonathan to the prices today, and they will see how much worse things have gotten. He said that Nigeria has never experienced this kind of bad governance before.
Ortom’s comments come as Buhari’s popularity has been declining. A recent poll found that only 30% of Nigerians approve of the job he is doing. Buhari is due to step down on May 29, 2023.
“Corruption is so endemic in this government, yet people who steal chicken are thrown into prison, but people in government who are busy stealing the wealth of the people are walking free.
“The President recently apologised to Nigerians; we accept the apology but he must be told that he failed woefully and Nigerians are feeling the impact of that failure because we are all suffering.”
Ortom also lamented the refusal of Buhari to curb the excesses of the armed Fulani herdsmen and designate them a terrorist organisation for being responsible for the killings in the country.
“The President told us he is retiring to tend to his cattle, is it because he is returning to be a herder that he failed to deal decisively with herdsmen? That was unfair to Nigerians,” he added.
The governor assured that he would continue to speak out against injustice in the country.
