The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Prof Charles Esimone on Thursday announced the deferment of the award of an honourary doctorate degree earlier approved for the dethroned Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Prof Charles Esimone made the announcement at the 14th convocation ceremonies of the University. According to the VC, the deferment was due to prevailing circumstances.
However, the VC added that the award would be conferred on Sanusi in future convocation ceremonies of the University.
He said, “The award will be conferred on the former Emir in our future convocation ceremonies. The Senate of the University duly approved the award to former Emir Muhammadu Sanusi.”
Sanusi was to be honoured with an honorary doctorate degree in risk management.
Unfortunately, he was dethroned on Monday, by Governor of Kano, Umar Ganduje, and banished to Nasarawa where he is being surrounded by reportedly 40 security personnel.
Two other Nigerians honoured by UNIZIK during the convocation were Chief Innocent Chukwuma, who is the Chairman, Innocent Motors, Nnewi, and Chief Daniel Chukwudolue of the Dozie Oil.
