Nigeria has confirmed eight new cases of coronavirus case, bringing the total confirmed cases in the country to 89.
Benue recorded its first case among the new confirmed cases while the other seven was recorded in Lagos.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control(NCDC) made this known via its Twitter handle on Saturday.
“8 new cases of #COVID19 have been reported in Nigeria, 7 in Lagos and 1 in Benue State. As at 04:00 pm 28th March there are 89 confirmed cases of #COVID19 reported in Nigeria with 1 death.” The tweet reads.
Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state also confirmed the state’s index case to newsmen today March 28, saying that the patient is a lady, Susan Okpe, who recently returned from the UK. He said she is presently undergoing treatment.
The governor said the name of the patient was disclosed so that anyone who might have had any contact with her within the last two weeks, should come forward for testing and isolation.
He appealed to residents of the state not to stigmatise the patient, rather support her and anyone who may have had close contact with her.
