Unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Tuesday morning attacked a military checkpoint in the country home of former President Goodluck Jonathan, Otuoke Community in Ogbia Local Government (LGA) of Bayelsa State, killing one soldier, leaving one injured.
It was gathered from a source who pleaded for anonymity, that the gunmen struck at about 3 am, shooting sporadically for two hours unhindered before fleeing through the river in an outboard engine boat.
According to our source, the armed men entered through the river linking Otuoke Community and Otuaba Communities, before attacking the gunboat that was stationed in the area.
Consequently, all roads in Otuoke/Otuaba is currently blocked by military personnel, with the movement of residents restricted.
When contacted, the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 16 Brigade, Nigerian Army, Maj. Jonah Danjuma said he will issue a statement, as soon as he gets more details.
Also when contacted, the spokesman of the Nigeria Police Force, Bayelsa Command, Asinim Butswat, declined comment, saying he does not want to meddle into military affairs.
