The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, the President-General of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Iwuanyawu, a distinguished statesman and leader who passed away at the age of 82.
Ezeokenwa praised Chief Iwuanyawu as a man of immense wisdom, a great ambassador of Ndigbo, and a consummate politician. He acknowledged his contributions as a founding member of various political parties and his roles in various organizations, including the
Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Federal Road Maintenance Agency, and Nigerian National Lottery Commission.
Emphatically as opined by the National Chairman, “Chief Iwuanyawu fought vigorously for Nigeria’s democracy and worked diligently for its establishment.
His efforts saw him as a founding member of the Nigeria National Congress (NNC), which metamorphosed into the defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) and the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), which eventually emerged as the defunct All People’s Party (APP) in 1998,” Ezeokenwa recalled.
Ezeokenwa also recognized Chief Iwuanyawu’s philanthropic efforts, his founding of Iwuanyawu FC, and his contributions to the media industry as the founder of Champion Newspaper.
On behalf of APGA, Ezeokenwa extended condolences to Late Chief Iwuanyawu’s family, associates, Ohaneze Ndigbo, Ndigbo at large, and the Government and people of Imo State and Nigeria. He prayed for the eternal repose of Chief Iwuanyawu’s soul, acknowledging the profound loss his passing represents to the nation.
