Anambra Govt disburses over N100million to victims of Ochanja Market Fire (Photos)

Anambra state government has disbursed over N100 million to victims of the Ochanja Market fire disaster.

Recall that Nigeria was thrown in sadness a month ago after a fallen tanker spilled its content and subsequently ignited the fire outbreak that burned down many part of Ochanja market in Onitsha, the commercial city of the southeastern state.

After the fire accident. Governor Obiano directed owners of properties affected by the tragic accident, including shop owners, to report at the Conference Room of the Secretary to the State Government on Monday, October 21, 2019,  to see how the Anambra State Government can assist them.

Well the government has kept its promise as governor Willie Obiano gave out cheques to the traders at an event held on Wednesday, November 20 at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia.

The governor in his speech said, “No amount of money can bring back the dead or commensurate the property they lost but Anambra state Government will do its best.”

The victims who are over seven hundred (700) are mainly shop owners who lost their wares to the inferno.

Ten persons were hospitalized after the disaster while six persons lost their lives, including the woman in the viral photo who was burnt along with her child.

One million naira was given to next of kin of the deceased, while five hundred thousand naira was given to each the two people that broke their legs, with their hospital bills paid.

Among those who attended the event were the Secretary to the state government, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu; Commissioner for Trade and Commerce, Mr Uchenna Okafor; Special Adviser to the Governor on Political matters, Chief Ifeatu Obiokoye; Chief Titus Anagbogu; Anambra-born Nollywood actor, Zuby Michael and Ochanja market Executives.
