Nicholas Ukachukwu has emerged the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the forthcoming Novermber race in Anambra state.
Ukachukwu won the governorship ticket in the primary conducted on Saturday, 5th April, 2025 after defeating his closest challenger, Valentine Ozigbo in the contest.
Nicholas polled 1,455 votes while Valentine recorded 67 votes in an election marred by violence, as thugs disrupted the delegate accreditation process, according to a report by Punch.
The Anambra State governorship election, which comes up in November 2025, would be the next major off-circle election in Nigeria.
Speaking after he was declared winner of the primary election, Ukachukwu vowed to deliver the state to the APC.
He said, “We shall deliver Anambra to the APC. One thing I want to say here, nobody has won the governorship of Anambra without my support; it has never happened before.
“I have been playing godfatherism, but now I want to be the father of the father, no more godfather.”
Meanwhile, Governor Chukwuma Soludo has already won the ticket of the state’s ruling party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA. Soludo, who was returned unopposed, polled over 300 votes during the primary, which was held in Awka on Saturday.

Also, the former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Chief George Moughalu emerged as the candidate of the Labour Party. Moughalu polled a total of 573 votes to defeat his only rival, John Nwosu, who got 19 votes, at the primary held at Finotel Hotel, Awka, on Saturday.
