The Association of Local Government Vice chairmen of Nigeria (ALGVON), Imo state chapter has condemned in totality the report contained in the press release done by the Chief Press Secretary to the Imo State Governor, Mr. Chibuike Onyeukwu, where it was announced that the elected Local Government Council officials have been suspended by the Governor, Chief Emeka Ihedioha.
Imo state ALGVON spokesperson, Hon. Godstime Chukwubuikem Samuel noted that the decision of the Governor is unholy and capable of breaching the peace in the state.
Godstime who is the Vice Chairman of Mbaitoli LGA, stated that while “We take relevant legal action against the said decision of the Governor, all LGA councils officials will go about their lawful duties as duly elected officials of the third tier government not allowing any form of Executive rascality from the second tier Government against the third tier see the light of the day.
“The Governor is witch-hunting us because we are members of APC loyal to President Muhammadu Buhari and not PDP,” Hon. Godstime explained.
“We want to use this opportunity to call on the Inspector General of Police, Director State Security Service and the Presidency to expedite effort to stop the governor from this ill fated act that is capable of disrupting the existing peace in Imo state.
“Can the president wake up one morning to suspend state Governors and their house of assembly members? The Governor’s action is basically for selfish reasons, to install his stogies as interim management committee that will milk Local government funds. We will go to any length to stop him because we are duly elected and he has no constitutional right to suspend us,” Hon. Godstime opined
“Imo State Administration law number 15 of 2000 as amended and section 7 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended is very clear and as such, we will remain in office till our tenure elapses in 2021. We will resist this illegality with all might.”
