APGA National Chairman, Barrister Sly Ezeokenwa opines on “Solutions to Political Party Crisis and Charting a Path for Nigeria’s Developmental Progress” –

The All-Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has been advocating for solutions to Nigeria’s political party crisis, which is hindering the country’s developmental progress. To address this, APGA suggests several key reforms.
Electoral Reforms
Electoral reforms are crucial in resolving Nigeria’s political party crisis. This can be achieved through the amendment of electoral laws to ensure free, fair, and credible elections. Additionally, strengthening the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure its independence and effectiveness in conducting elections is vital. This the National Assembly is bound to ensure its success at least before the next general elections in 2027.
Citizen Political Education and Participation
Citizen political education and participation are essential in promoting democratic governance. APGA advocates for civic engagement and voter education
to promote democratic participation and accountability. INEC as part of its duty is expected to engage in this civic education regularly and not relaxing until any form of election period both at the local, state and federal levels
Transformational Leadership
The emergence of transformational leadership is critical in resolving Nigeria’s political party crisis. This requires leaders who can drive change and promote national unity. At least over time almost all the major political parties in Nigeria has been engulfed with one form of political leadership crisis or the other, it is high time the Parties learn and drive toward instilling
transformational leadership in their various parties – This of course will aid in the emergence of great leaders in the Nigeria polity as a whole devoid of division and acrimony. The United State of America and other developed and developing country’s methodology could be studied and adopted for good democratic ethics and philosophy
Elite Consensus
Building an elite consensus is necessary for national unity and stability. APGA suggests fostering a sense of shared responsibility among Nigeria’s elite to address the country’s challenges. Essentially, Nigeria’s progress hinges on its ability to achieve elite consensus, which involves key stakeholders agreeing on the nation’s developmental goals and strategies to include these key components – Shared Responsibility; National Unity; and Collaborative Governance which will benefit us in terms of Stable and effective governance, reduced conflict, and increased stability, Also, Economic Growth and Social Cohesion that can help bridge social divides and promote national unity. Though it has its Challenges but this the National Chairman, believes can be managed to include – Diverse Interests, Lack of Trust and Institutional Weaknesses.
Constitutional Reform
Constitutional reform is essential in addressing Nigeria’s political party crisis. This involves reviewing the country’s constitution to ensure it reflects the aspirations of all Nigerians. The National Assembly haven started the processes, is encouraged to work audaciously to achieve this reform.
Economic Philosophy
APGA advocates for an economic philosophy that promotes economic growth and development. This can be achieved through policies that support entrepreneurship, innovation, and job creation.
In conclusion, resolving Nigeria’s political party crisis requires a multi-faceted approach. APGA’s suggestions provide a framework for addressing the country’s challenges and promoting developmental progress.
