A High Court situated in Akure, Ondo State, ordered the Ondo State Government on Wednesday, 29 March, to pay a certain Mr. Oluwasegun Oluwarotimi a sum of N30 million as compensation for damages emanating from an unjustified gunshot injuries.
The 36-year-old Oluwasegun and motorcyclist had suffered serious gunshot wounds during an unexpected encounter with operatives of the State Security Network, known by locals as Amotekun Corps.
In his jugment, Justice Adejumo ordered that Oluwasegun be compensated by the State government with the sum of N30 million as damages.
Oluwarotimi, who filed the case regarding the illegal shooting, has reportedly lost his affected limb by medical amputation.
The judge passed his decision, saying:
“The illegal shooting at Araromi Street on August 9, 2021 in Akure by the Amotekun was a violation of the applicant’s human right.
“The court hereby orders the respondents to jointly pay the sum of N20 million to the applicant as general damages and N10 million as exemplary damages.”
