A Boko Haram chief bomb maker and a high-ranking terrorist identified as Awana Gaidam has fallen victim to his own Improvised Explosive Device (IED). This news was revealed on Tuesday, 28 March, by Zagazola Makama, a Counter Insurgency Expert and Security Analyst.
Makama said told that the 39-year-old Awana was very instrumental to the Boko Haram in creating IEDs, in addition to his high rank in the command of the terrorist group.
Awana was believed to led the several attacks involving explosives on troops of Operation Hadin Kai during fighting patrols, along major highways between Maiduguri to Damboa, Bama to Pulka and Bita as well as Banki to Darajamal’s general area.
Zagazola Makama said that he received intel informing him of Awana’s demise which occurred as a result of one of his IEDs hitting his vehicle and destroying both the vehicle and him along Njumia and Arra in the Sambisa forest, on March 27.
The intel has it that the IED that killed him was one of several which he had planted to fortify his camp in the said area.
Zagazola said:
“The killing of Awana… represent a serious blow to operational capability of the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād, terrorists group.”
