Soldiers in Borno State have resisted an attempted terrorist attack by over 60 suspected Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP) members when they tried to gain access into the army base. The army base served as collation center for last Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly elections in the state.
Reports have it that the terrorists invaded Mafa town some hours after Governor Babagana Zulum cast his vote at the Ajari Ward polling unit 001 in Mafa L.G.A, Borno State.
They stormed the town in gun trucks and motorcycles around 2:00am and were heading towards the military base where collation of votes for the local government was ongoing.
However, troops of Operation Hadin Kai annihilated the terrorists, following an aggressive counter-attack operation which was supported by air taskforce fighter jets dispatched to the scene.
The fighter jets bombarded the fleeing terrorists, killing a large majority and leaving a surviving few severely wounded.
Sources told the publication that 60 bullet-battered corpses of the terrorists were collected, including a Hilux truck and several weapons and ammunition.
