The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has its planned nationwide strike on hold.
The strike plan had been triggered by a need for upward review of medical residency training fund, the non-payment of outstanding arrears of the new hazard allowance, and the non-payment of the consequential adjustment of the minimum wage to some of its members.
The organization’s National Executive Committee (NEC) held a meeting on Sunday, January 29 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. This meeting reportedly led to the strike suspension.
The doctors, at the end of the meeting, commended the Federal Government for the timely release of the reviewed circular on the medical residency training fund.
They also praised the Minister of Labour and Employment for further actions taken to upgrade the welfare of its members.
