Barr Ikechukwu Nwaopara, a prominent Imo-based lawyer and former House of Assembly aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Mbaitoli local government has raised the alarm of an alleged plot to end his life.
Nwaopara in a statement released on Monday evening, December 19, alleged that some leaders in his party, APC, are plotting to kill him because of his new political stand on the 2023 election, especially his decision to support Hon. Henry Nwawuba, the Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), against his party’s candidate, Engr Akarachi Amadi.
In the statement titled, “My LIFE IS IN DANGER”, Nwaopara called on the Inspector General of Police, Imo State Commissioner of Police, DSS, Governor Hope Uzodinma, Mbaitoli leaders and the general public to take note of the threat to his life. He also said APC leaders in Mbaitoli should be he held responsible if anything happens to him or members of his family in the cause of the 2023 election.
Part of his statement reads,
“My attention has been drawn to a leaked secret meeting by some APC hatchet leaders held at Mbaitoli Council Headquarters, Nwaorieubi over the Last weekend wherein I was made the subject of discussion and agenda of the meeting with the hatchet decisions to get me down.
“According to my source,the said leaders are not happy and comfortable with my new found love,support and endorsement for candidates of other political parties especially for Rt Hon Henry Nwawuba for Federal House of Representative Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency as against Engr Akarachi Amadi of the All Progressive Congress.My Source further revealed that the said hatchet leaders were also furious over my said support and endorsements while still in the APC party Mbaitoli. My personality was made a subject of caricature with lots of derogatory remarks, falsehood, name callings, blackmail and character assassination of my person by the said persons in attendance just to ridicule me and incite hate against my person among party members and leaders of the party.
“Those in attendance at the said meeting is one Emmanuel Opara (popularly known as OYI) and his cohorts who was reported to be outstanding in the discourse and subject matter of the said meeting. Regrettably, Commissioner Kezie Ogaziechi, Chief Marcellinus Nlemigbo, Chief Chinasa Opara, Mrs Margret and others whose names can better be described as APC political feather weights were also present in the said meeting.
“It will be recalled that I was one of the Aspirants for the botched APC House of Assembly Primaries for Mbaitoli Constituency. My said participation in the party brought glamour to the party and the reward I got from the leadership of the party was deceit and lies that there will be party primaries which gulped me over N40 million Naira.
“Dissatisfied with the level of dishonesty of the said party leadership and some of its leaders within the party despite several failed diplomatic approaches to resolve the differences as experienced in other LGAs,I decided to throw my support to somewhere else where equity,good conscience,natural justice and fear of God reigns Supreme.
“Uncomfortable with my wave of successes in my new found political decision and ideology,some of the said hatchet leaders now feels I can be silenced by their recent resolve to execute their evil plans against my person and my supporters.
“I am using this medium therefore, to bring to the knowledge of the general public,my family members and the relevant security agencies and authorities of the ongoing plans by some APC leadership and its leaders in Mbaitoli to silence me.I hereby declare that the leadership of APC Mbaitoli and its leaders should be held responsible if anything happens to me or any member of my family in the course of my political activities for the 2023 general election.
“As a true Citizen of Nigeria, I am constitutionally entitled to support any candidate of my choice irrespective of political party or party lines.I therefore warn the said APC Mbaitoli leadership and its leaders to desist from their said evil plans against me by respecting and honouring my said constitutional right which is sacrosanct. I should remind them that as a former aspirant, my supporters are everywhere in the party and any step or meeting or plan against me must get to my information desk within a twinkle of an eye and those involved will be rounded up,arrested,detained and dealt with decisively.
“The APC Mbaitoli Leadership and its Leaders should concentrate on how to pick up their pieces already in shambles and disarray,see how to market their unmarketable candidates for the 2023 elections.
“I have however instructed my lawyers to formally write and forward my petition to the relevant security agencies for investigation and interrogation.
“A word is enough for a wise.
