There was a bomb blast at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Owerri , Imo State in the early hours of Monday.
The gunmen who attacked the commission’s office threw grenades over the fence, destroying several part of the property and vehicles at the premises.
While confirming the incident, the INEC public relations officer, Dr. Chinenye Chijioke-Osuji disclosed that the police stationed at the office engaged the gunmen in a heavy shootout, leaving three of the gunmen wearing charms and Biafra camouflages dead.
The Imo State Police spokesperson, Michael Abattam, confirmed the attack and said, “We lost one police officer in the attack, and one (another officer) was injured. But we neutralised three of the hoodlums,” he said.
