North Korea decided on Wednesday to use its main international airport to launch a ballistic missile after an earlier failed missile test left debris falling on the capital itself.
Construction began on a facility next to the airport in Sunan in 2016, with multiple subsequent launches suspected as developmental tests for Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles.
Missile researcher Jeffrey Lewis speculated in a report Sunday that the proximity of the airport to ballistic missile component manufacturing plants, and the capital itself for Kim Jong Un’s convenience, point to ICBM plans.
