Venezuela has released jailed Americans, following high-level talks on the possible easing of sanctions. It comes after Joe Biden introduced a ban on Russian oil imports.
Release of the two jailed U.S. citizens on Tuesday was in an apparent goodwill gesture toward the Biden administration following a visit to Caracas by a high-level U.S. delegation.
One of the freed prisoners was Gustavo Cardenas, among six Citgo oil executives arrested in 2017 and convicted on charges the U.S. government says were fabricated. The other was a Cuban American, identified as Jorge Alberto Fernandez, detained on unrelated charges.
The White House appears to be turning to Venezuela to plug the gap, with domestic gas prices continuing to skyrocket.
In the video below, Fox News’ Peter Doocy suggested the gas price had been going up anyway because of post-pandemic supply chain issues.
