Nigerian human rights activist and Sahara Reporters’ Publisher, Omoyele Sowore has been reported shot by a police officer on Monday morning, May 31.
Sowore who is the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement was at the Unity Fountain in Abuja this morning for a protest when a female police ACP shot at him.
One of his lawyers, Inibehe Effiong said a female police officer shot at Sowore at the Unity Fountain.
“Omoyele Sowore has just been shot by a female police officer at the Unity Fountain in Abuja. He is being taken to the hospital for treatment. The officer fired a teargas cannister directly at his right thigh. Sowore was specifically targeted,” he said.
The incident was also recorded live on Facebook in presence of online viewers who raised the alarm over incident.
Sowore is currently being rushed to a hospital, according to reports from the live audience.
