It’s Official! Buhari approves Magu’s suspension, Umar takes over as EFCC boss

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the suspension of the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu, the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), has confirmed on Friday.

In a statement released by Umar Gwandu, the spokesman of the Attorney-General, it was confirmed that Buhari subsequently appointed the EFCC Head of Operations, Mohammed Umar, to take over as the acting chairman of the anti-graft agency.

The statement read in part,  “President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate suspension of Ibrahim Magu as Ag. Chairman EFCC in order to allow for unhindered inquiry by the Presidential Investigation Panel under the Tribunals of Inquiry Act and other relevant laws.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has also approved that the EFCC Director of Operations, Mohammed Umar, should take charge and oversee the activities of the Commission pending the conclusion of the ongoing investigation and further directives in that regards.”

On Wednesday, news went round that President Buhari had penciled down Bala Ciroma, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command as replacement for Magu.

On Thursday, Lauretta Onochie, social media aide to the President said it is better for Nigerians to wait for an official communication before rushing to tell the public unconfirmed news.

Well, it now official, Magu has been confirmed suspended while his former position has been given to the Head of Operations, Mohammed Umar, to take over as the acting chairman.
