Ondo Commissioner of Police Bolaji Salami on Saturday night got into a messy confrontation as he led a team of policemen to stop Deputy Governor Agboola Ajayi from leaving the Government House with official vehicles.
Ajayi had wanted to leave the Government House with the vehicles, claiming he no longer feel safe in the premises.
But the Police boss stopped him, asking Ajayi to return on Sunday because he had orders from above not to allow him leave with the vehicles.
Actions of the commissioner of police who was spotted having an argument with Ajayi at the government house gate, has been linked to the Deputy Governor’s alleged defection plan which he (Police Commissioner) repeatedly mentioned in a viral video.
There are reports that Ajayi has decided to join the PDP to contest against Governor Akeredolu in the state governorship election scheduled to hold on October 10, 2020. It was reported that the deputy governor’s defection plan has created disaffection among top members of the APC and loyalists of Akeredolu, who have been pleading with Ajayi not to leave the party.
Insiders said the Deputy Governor’s decision to contest in the governorship election stemmed from a cold war between him and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, which became visible shortly after the 2019 general elections.
