Nigerians have taken to Twitter to blast Koko Master, Singer Dbanj for arresting Seyitan Babatayo, the lady who accused him of raping her in 2018 and allegedly influencing the police to deny her access to her family, friends and lawyers.
Babatayo’s lawyers confirmed her arrest on Tuesday June 16. Her lawyers told Premium Times;
“They arrested Seyitan this morning in Lagos. They arrested our client but somebody is already there to facilitate her release on bail.
“This matter is coming to Abuja by tomorrow; we are petitioning. The Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) is taking up the petition tomorrow. That is all I can say about it for now.”
In a notice D’banj’s lawyers Mike Ozekhome Chambers served Ms Babatayo, she was asked to pay the singer N100m within 48 hours as compensation as the singer claims that she falsely accused him of rape.
D’banj also demanded for a letter of apology and retraction of her statements which should be published in four national dailies.
However, Nigerians on Twitter believe that since Dbanj’s lawyers have written her and have plans of suing her, that he abused his privileges as a rich, influential person by using the police to probably harass his accuser into silence and to get her to succumb to his threats.
Popular BBC journalist, Kiki Mordi raised the alarm of Ms Babatayo’s detention and wondered why Dbanj was not arrested weeks after he was accused but instead the accused was the one been arrested.
Seyitan Babatayo has now been released, but read what Nigerians are saying below.
Rape is such a heinous crime no one should be associated with. However, he who alleges must prove. No one has the right to destroy others through rogue allegations and hope to go free just as no proved rapist should go free.
