The Nigerian Senate has on Friday released the details of the National Assembly budget for the 2018 fiscal year.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, had promised earlier to release the National Assembly’s 2018 budget as a way of ensuring accountability to the Nigerian people following pressure from human rights activists and civil society groups.
The 45-page document shows that a total of N139,500,000,000 (139.5billion) was budgeted for the National Assembly in the year 2018.
Out of the over N139 billion, N35 billion was the total for the senate, while the house of representatives had N57 billion.
N10 billion was budgeted for legislative workers while the national assembly office and commission got N15 billion and N2 billion respectively.
The National Assembly legislative institute got N4 billion while N1.1 billion was appropriated for service wide vote of the legislature. The public accounts committee (PAC) of the senate and the house got N118 million and N142 million respectively. N12.3 billion was earmarked for “general services.”
