Chloroquine, the anti-malarial drug which was banned in Nigeria years ago, has now been approved by the United State for the treatment of the coronavirus disease.
Making the announcement on Thursday, President Donald Trump said: “We’re going to be able to make that drug available almost immediately, and that’s where the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) has been so great.
“They’ve gone through the approval process – it’s been approved. They took it down from many, many months to immediate. So we’re going to be able to make that drug available by prescription.”
This is however not the first time we are getting reports that chloroquine has been effective in the treatment of Covid-19. At the peak of the outbreak in China, Chinese medics also revealed that the anti-malaria drug was used to treat many that were infected with the virus.
