Five sisters allegedly beat their brother to death for demanding a share of dowry

Five sisters have been arrested and arraigned in court for beating their brother to death on Sunday February 16, after he demanded for a share of the dowry paid for one of his sisters.

51-year-old Paul Njeri was reportedly brutalized by his sisters at a goat-eating ceremony that preceded the dowry-payment event at Mwimuto Village in Kiambu County of Kenya.

The deceased who insisted that he wanted a share of the dowry that was paid for their eldest sister who was not among the five, was beaten with firewood and logs by his sisters identified as Mary Muthoni, Elizabeth Wairimu, Catherine Wanja, Alibeta Njambi, and Susan Wambui.

Gatundu North Sub-County police boss, Steve Kirui confirmed the arrest of the suspects who were allegedly “shocked” to see that their brother who they thought overslept after he locked himself in his house in their mother’s compound, succumbed to his injuries.

Kirui said;

“The goat-eating ceremony was to the mark the start of the dowry-payment process. The suspects are said to have ganged up against the deceased after he demanded he be given a share of the dowry that was to be paid for one of the sisters.”

The sisters were arraigned in court on Monday February 17, while the corpse of their brother was taken to General Kago Funeral Home. Paul’s postmortem is scheduled for Wednesday, February 19.
