2face Idibia and Blackface agree to settle their legal battle out of court

Former Plantashun Boyz members, 2face Idibia and Blackface have decided to settle their legal case out of court.

According to reports, 2face Idibia has dropped his defamation lawsuit of 50 million naira against Blackface and has signed an undisclosed settlement agreement at the Ikeja High Court.

In a bid to put the legal battle to an end, the duo opted for an of-court settlement.

Recall that Blackface in one of his diss song titled ‘War’ targeted at 2face idibia accused the music legend of being ‘Gay’. The defunct member of the Platainshun Boiz group alleged that 2face engaged in same-sex intercourse as a sacrifice for his success.

2face’s sixth studio album, ”The Ascension” was released in 2014 and the lead single, ‘Let Somebody Love You’ featured American singer, Bridget Kelly and credits Efe Omorogbe as a co-composer, and Blackface insists that it is a plot to cut down the percentage he is supposed to earn from the song’s royalties.

Following several allegations of copyright theft particularly over the singles, ‘African Queen’ and ‘Let Somebody Love You’, 2face and his manager Efe Omorogbe had filed a suit against Blackface at the High Court, Ikeja Judicial Division, Lagos in April 2018.

Mani Enajeroh of M.O Enajeroh, after the adjournment of the case in March gave a statement,

”The Copyright system in Nigeria will eventually kill every iota of creativity in Nigerian music, unless someone takes up this issue of royalties.

“Even though we don’t have functioning collective societies that doesn’t mean we can’t be fair to one another. Because of speaking out about this Blackface was sued for N50m.

“That’s why it’s important that this case must be struck out. The case is a threat to freedom of expression, and intellectual property in general. We are confident that the Court will strike out the case.

“This is a copyright issue, no matter how you look at it and it ought to be at the Federal High Court. Look at their court documents, they did not admit anywhere that Blackface wrote “Let somebody love you”. The stories are never consistent.”
