Imo State Students elect First Female National President

The National Union of Imo State Students (NUISS) on Friday, 15th November elected Comr. Kosarachi Philipa Mbachu as the first-ever female national president of the Union.

The National President-elect, Comr. Mbachu is a 300-level student of Imo state university from Ehime Mbano LGA of Imo state.

Comr. Mbachu scored 301 votes to defeat her closest rival; Comr. Obi Joshua, a student of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri who scored 190 votes. Comr. Gilbert Okoroigwe of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri scored 142 votes to come 3rd in the presidential election.

This is the first time since the formation of NUISS which is the apex governing body of all students of Imo state origin in Nigeria and diaspora, through their local government delegates and school representatives are voting to have a lady emerge as national president.

Most of the students at the election venue noted that Imo state students will be facing a difficult time if the rumoured abolishment of the free education being enjoyed by Imo state students in Imo state owned schools happen to be true and only a dogged comrade like Comr. Mbachu can ensure a better bargain for Imo state students.

Security operatives who were at the venue to monitor the NUISS 7th republic election reported that the election was very peaceful, free and fair.

Comr. Marvis Ugonna emerged as national vice president, Comr. Agbaghara Favour as Minister of transport, Comr. Adaugo Madumere as Vice president Special duties, comr. Odimegwu Ugochukwu as Minister for Information, amongst others.

The NUISS national chancellor, Hon. God’stime Chukwubuikem Samuel was an observer. Comr. Obiefule charles was the chief electoral returning officer for the NUISS 7th republic convention.

Inauguration of the elected officials has been scheduled to hold one week later.
