Ahmadu Bello University confirm kidnap of 3 Law students

Three final year students of the Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria have been kidnapped on Abuja-Kaduna expressway. The students were said to be on their way to school when the vehicle they were traveling in, was attacked by their abductors.

The Abuja-Kaduna road is notorious for being a flash-point of kidnappings.

Recall that the chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Abubakar Mahmood, and his daughter were kidnapped on the same road in April.

PRNigeria identified the undergraduates, two females and one male, as Fatima from Taraba, Maryam from Niger and Umar from Katsina States.

“The three abducted students are all 500-Level law students of ABU Zaria. We learn that the kidnappers initially demanded for N50m ransom each but later reduced to N5m because they are students who are yet to be working.”

A passenger who escaped during the encounter with the kidnappers told PRNigeria that they attacked commercial vehicles and big trucks.

“I am surprise that unlike their previous antics of attacking rich and big people in exotic cars, the kidnappers now attack commercial vehicles, trucks and buses and abducted their poor drivers and passengers.”

Confirming the incident, the Management of Ahmadu Bello University, through a statement from the Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Ismail Shehu, said:

“Three students of the Faculty of Law were kidnapped on the Kaduna-Abuja Expressway.

“Yes, it is true that our students, three of them, from the Faculty of Law have been kidnapped.

“But efforts are being made by the University, and parents of the affected students to secure their immediate release.”
