A lady has left many in shock after she violently pushed Father Marcelo Rossi down from the altar on Sunday, July 14 in front of stunned congregation.
Father Marcelo Rossi is a popular Brazilian priest who is celebrated in the country for his lively sermons.
Rossi is regarded as a preaching powerhouse, a celebrity priest who has reportedly sold millions of musical records in Brazil and was once dubbed a “pop-star priest” by the Associated Press.
The priest was giving an address during the closing ceremony of a youth camp which had an estimated 50,000 attendees. He was not seriously injured and officials noted he soon returned to the stage to complete his sermon, which was being streamed to the internet.
The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. after the yet-to-be identified woman was able to rush past security and approach Father Rossi during the ceremony at the headquarters of Canção Nova, which is a Brazilian Catholic community known for broadcasting religious material online.
Though the priest didn’t get hurt and resumed the mass almost immediately, the police revealed that the woman’s friends said she has a history of mental disorder upon being arrested.
